The Loyal Client Blueprint: Experiences That Drive Growth

Did you know you can build a marketing system that creates clients who stay, refer, and rave?

Clients don’t leave because of performance—they leave due to lack of communication and connection.  The advisors seeing the strongest results don’t do more—they do things more consistently. 81% of clients are more likely to refer a communicative advisor (YCharts Advisor-Client Survey, 2024).

Retention is the foundation of growth:

  • 5–7x more expensive to acquire vs. retain (Forbes / Harvard Business Review)
  • A 5% increase in retention can drive 25–95% more profitability (Harvard Business Review)

The most effective strategies are simple and repeatable:

  • Turn on key automations
  • Organize your contacts
  • Schedule consistent, personalized outreach

The goal: Build a system that runs consistently—not one that relies on memory.

Key takeaway: It’s not about doing more—it’s about doing things consistently and personally.

Best practice for segmenting your contact groups:

  • Start simple
  • Keep CRM clean and updated after every interaction
  • Sync data to ensure automations run properly

The Formula for Growth

  • Retain → consistent communication
  • Deepen → build trust through key moments
  • Expand → grow relationships
  • Advocate → turn clients into promoters
  • Acquire → referrals fuel growth

So how can we talk about taking those clients we already have, wrapping our arms around them, turning into, you know, world creating world class experience, and of course, creating an opportunity for them to be raving fans.

So as we get going, I’m Elise Lambert, the the host for today and every month for our did you know series.

We I am the director of product and enterprise marketing here, and we are excited to share with you, I think, a topic that hits home.

And you can see there’s been a lot of popularity with this Did You Know? So it’s excited to see everyone as always and it looks like Karen started it off, my favorite thing is saying hi to everyone across the country.

So please let me know where you’re chiming in from.

I am in Fort Worth, Texas. This is a picture of me and my growing family.

And so we live here. And most importantly, let’s get right to it.

Housekeeping.

So of course, a recording will be sent afterwards. And if you’ve been to one of these, you know that we send the chat records, we send our amazing giveaways, we send out everything. So presentation, recording, you name it will all be sent to you afterwards.

And so look up for that follow-up with those, the giveaways, slides, you name it, we have that all there.

And then of course, you all are so stinking busy as financial professionals. So log in and follow along. Put into practice today what what we’re going to go over so that you can have more time to meet with clients and do what it is you are so good at. And that’s creating value for your clients and prospects and your community.

So if you have any questions, maybe it’s a support question, feel free to put it in the q and a section.

We have an amazing team, my amazing team on here helping us.

So if you have any questions, we want to we want to just tackle them right here. So let us know.

And of course, if you missed last month’s, did you know? We just put the replay in the chat, and of course, anything we share in the chat, will share in the replay email follow-up, but we talked about events, in person events and virtual events, how we can promote them, how we can turn these into full on marketing campaigns, demos, and we went through how to turn these on, how to create those landing pages, how to customize them to allow your brand and your voice to come through. So if you missed that, that was a really great one. And of course, we’ll share this in the chat, my LinkedIn would love to connect with you all and see all the amazing marketing you’re doing. That is one of my favorite things is to see what we go over in this Did You Know series and you all put it into practice. So when you share events or you share something like you just obtained your CFP, I want to celebrate with you.

And so what we’re going to be going over today is how we can simplify our client retention communication calendar. How can we personalize with our utilizing this data from our CRMs that we have or your client data that you have, strengthen trust during ups and downs, of course, and how can we turn our satisfied clients into loyal advocates.

And so as we get going today, I have a question for you all. And this is just something I was generally curious about. And it helps us also think about our future did you knows, but who is your target audience?

And so there’s I put a handful here. I I put the top, you know, couple most popular, but if it’s not in there, if you could write it in. I’m just curious because that also helps us curate content for you. We pass this information along to our content team as well, so that we can continue to create content that is valuable for you, so we can continue to bring topics to you that we know.

And of course, you can also put in the chat too. But if you could fill out that poll, we’re curious. And so I’ll leave that up for just a couple more slides. And then I’ll share that with you to see who all and if you want to put in a chat to who you’re working with, we would love to see it.

So clientele loyalty blueprint, why on earth is this important? And retention is the engine to scalable growth. And this is the idea of scale scaling and growth is one that you’re going to see in our next couple Did You Knows as well, because you are all growing depending on what your goals are. Maybe it’s, hey, I want to add two to three households this quarter or I this, I have got a good book, I really just want to continue to build on my marketing presence or my general awareness, right? So depending on what you’re trying to do, I think this topic really applies.

And every client you keep compounds in value, right? We want to keep those clients though they are the ones that will then help you expand with referrals. We know referrals are going nowhere. This is that is still the breadth of our business. This is still a relationship based business. So no matter how good your website is, how amazing your podcast is, this is still a handshake business. And so five to seven times more expensive to acquire a new client than to retain one.

So that’s interesting. So again, thinking about our budget, thinking about our marketing budget, thinking about the overall budget of your business. And there’s a 25 to 95% increase in profitability from just a 5% retention, and that’s from Harvard Business Review, and 81% of clients are more willing to refer you right when they’re happy. And so how can we look and expand on this process? Right, we want to retain them, we want to deepen these relationships, then of course, that next generation, right? We know that then our retirees will now introduce us to their grandchildren, to their family members. And then we can, of course, in turn, turn them into advocates and create that referral machine that everyone always talks about.

And so before I get going, I just wanted to share the results of this poll. So this is based on our attendees today. Looks like a lot of you are focusing on pre retirees, which is really interesting. Cool to see.

All right. Well, thank you. Thanks for coming along with me on that journey. I’m just always curious. And again, we want to help build this for you all.

And so what is inside? So we are giving away a playbook, we are giving away some resources that our team put a ton of resources or a ton of time and energy into providing this. So we’re giving away a blueprint for you. Know so you guys, if you’ve been here before, you know this, I’ve been a financial advisor myself.

I have been a marketing director. And sometimes it’s really nice just to say, hey, tell me what I need to do, and how often and when and so we know what it’s like. And so we put together these resources for you. So we will be sending these to you afterwards.

But let’s talk about what goes into these. So let’s talk about our quick wins. What can we implement today in the short term? And then what can we continue to build on in the long term?

So our playbook that we are sending, our playbook blueprint, call it what you want, that we’re sending to you is built with, hey, what can we start with today? What can I do with today to kick start my client retention strategy? And then what can how can we break this monthly, quarterly, semiannually, and of course, annually. That’s breaking into bite sized pieces.

What can we do today? And what do we need to do tomorrow and so on?

So let’s start with our quick start loyalty builder.

And these are just some really basic things, right? If you haven’t gone in and turned on your automation, something as simple as that birthday, a holiday and maybe a quarterly check-in or a monthly market insight, That is the best way. We know the number one reason why clients leave us as their trusted financial professionals because a lack of communication. It’s not a lack of results.

It’s they feel as though they are not getting that TLC that they think they deserve. And so we can easily fix this. So what can we do today? Log in, turn on your automations, I don’t care which ones, but happy birthday, monthly market insight are a great place to start.

And then we also want to make sure that your contacts, whether they live in your CRM, whether using Redbox, Wealth, Redtail, Wealthbox, Salesforce, whatever it might be, that they are organised. Bare minimum, we want to organize them based on clients and prospects and centers of influence, but you can organize them in a number of different ways. So how are you organizing these? And of course, I will be sending these slides in this presentation recording and handouts afterwards, so I keep getting that in the chat.

So don’t worry everyone, these will all be sent to you. And of course, scheduling one email per segment. So scheduling out an email sequence or personalized campaign is a great place to start. So that is things that you can do today while we are on the call.

And I love this in the chat. Someone just mentioned that people love our birthday emails. We also send physical cards, and I love that. The surprise and delight feature is my favorite.

And that is why on this right hand side, we put in also not just emails, but what are our non email client touch points? So that personal call, I think we forget to pick up the phone these days, or I guess depending on your target audience, you might use the phone a little bit more than others. But utilising the good old fashioned phone call is a great way to stay in touch. Right?

Think of two clients that you could call right after this call just to say, hey, was thinking of you. How are you? It doesn’t even have to be business related.

And if you’re utilizing a compliant text message platform, that’s a really great way to schedule out those text messages and send them out and get a good old fashioned, hey, let’s grab coffee, right? I think that’s also gone by the wayside in this digital world that we’re living in. And of course, hosting a client event or client appreciation gesture, like sending a greeting card, or sending them flowers for a specific milestone, or sending them a small gift or token of appreciation or graduation gift to their grandkids. I tell this story frequently. And I always ask my girlfriends, my guy friends, hey, how did you acquire your financial advisor? That’s my favorite question to ask.

Maybe they- I might get- stop getting invited to parties or whatever. But this is my favorite thing to ask. And one of my girlfriends once mentioned, she said, Well, I use my financial advisor, I found my financial advisor because it was my grandparents’ financial advisor. And she sent me a really nice graduation gift when I graduated college.

And that was it. Right? So it’s something really simple there. So my question to you in the chat is what is your favorite non email client touchpoint?

Is it the phone call? Is it a text message, approved text message? Is it a client event? What do you do that sets yourself apart that’s building on that relationship that’s creating that loyalty?

So I’m seeing birthday cards, phone call.

Alright, we’ll see what else comes in.

Okay, so now we’ve talked about- I mentioned the importance of that contact relationship management tool, your CRM or your client data, how it is organized. I just wanted to give some ideas on ways that which we can continue to build on our client segmentation, because sending the right message to the right audience at the right time is meaningful communication. So segmentation ideas, And I would love to hear from you all in the chat.

How you segment your contact list? Is it by your demographic?

Location? Is it done by tier one, tier two, tier three? Is it my golfers, my wine lovers and my travellers? How have you organised your contact list?

And again, it can be done by engagement, right? Hey, these are my group that I market to for events. This is my podcast group. This is my email, or client status. I love that.

So want everyone to share this, but again, bare minimum, if you haven’t gone in and organized your contact list for at least clients and prospects, then I think it’s a really great time to jump in and do some spring cleaning and go in and organize those. And I think that is something we’ve added to this blueprint is to making sure that we have a system in place. How often are you going in and cleaning up those lists to make sure that the right message is landing in the right place?

So we’ve added just some CRM best practices here. But I love this top tier, their favorites, those with small children, platinum, diamond, and gold and silver, great ideas.

Oh, that’s a good idea. And again, a good surprise and delight sending something as simple as a Dunkin Donuts gift card or a Starbucks gift card.

Great ideas. And this is why I love the chat. And again, if the chat’s too much for you, if you’re like, hey, it’s, it’s too much, feel free to minimize it. But as we go through a great way to automate that client relationship series is there is an email sequence that lives in the content library.

If you haven’t checked this one out yet, it is the client relationship nurturing email sequence. It goes up four times a year, you can dictate, the amount of time in between, but this is a series of four emails that will go out, you can use this as is, but of course, we encourage you to make it your own, add your own voice, come in and edit this. But again, if you’re, you want to get this done while we’re on this call, go in turn this automation, this email sequence on. So if you go to your content library, and I’ll demo this in a second of where to find this.

But these email sequences are a great way you can come in and make them your own.

We have a ton of email sequences available, I’ll touch on another one, but this is a great way to drip on them, but come in, add your own voice to these and make them your own.

And so we talked about what can we kick start today, right? That was where we got started. It’s hey, we want to organize CRM, let’s turn on some automations. And let’s focus on a couple personal touch points.

Next, what can we do on a monthly basis? What does this look like on a monthly basis so we are reaching them consistently, and so we want to send that monthly check-in. So again, this can be accomplished with that monthly market insight email automation, but also sharing at least one piece of content, especially for those of you are utilising blogs or video, great place for you to showcase you as the bellwether, you as that talking head in your emails. And someone just mentioned how do you increase open rates?

That’s funny, we’ll talk about that here in a second. Have a whole slide on open rates.

And of course engagement, right? So I want to look at my email engagement, I want to go to the email sentence scheduled, and start to look at that a little more critically. And we’re going to talk about that in that next slide. And we want to look at who our highly engaged clients are, who are our advocates, who are the ones that are opening our emails and interacting with them.

And then from there, I’m going to use that as my strategy moving forward, I’m going to use this data to then allow me to create maybe a personal touch list of who I want to get in touch with, and who I want to engage with. But a really fun idea that we came up with was, record a thirty second video of check-in during market volatility, or hey, thirty second video of, hey, it’s springtime. How you know, spring cleaning, time to clean up your finances. Where’d you go on spring break?

I’d love to hear from you. Let’s get together. Right? It can be something really simple.

And then sending, you know, another idea is just that handwritten note after a major life event, it’s graduation season.

It’s spring, there’s lots going on.

But again, and if you’ve organised your contact list based on hobbies or, or what they like to do, preferences, you can share hobby related items, right? We don’t always have to share financial stuff. So thinking about different ways to sprinkle in some of that.

And of course, feature client success stories with permission, of course, but share ways that which you’re also working with clients, sharing ways that which you can, sharing ways that which you can optimize your, the work you do with clients and showcase and celebrate wins that you have with clients as well. That’s a really great place to do that. So thinking more about dripping on them on a regular basis, again, there’s another email sequence that I wanted to highlight for you all, and this one is a plan for all seasons. This is a twelve month email sequence that comes in, you turn it on in January, and it will reach the clients each month. So this is a really great one to use beginning of the month.

And I’m getting some really good questions on hobby related articles in FMG. So there’s a couple places at which you can find those, right? So if we’re talking about maybe let’s just use maybe travelers, I know I’ve a ton of clients that love to travel, where can I find that content? There is something called Curator in the FMG Library where you can find third party content on traveling, but also if you’ve premium, you can utilize some of our AI features to create an article.

So I would take a article in the content library, and I would have our AI our AI tool then start to curate that same article, And I would prompt it to say, hey, can you write this article? But can you have it for golfers? Hey, can you rewrite this for the target audience for people that love to travel? Right?

So that’s a really great way to expand on your target audience and reach them and send something that is a little more geared to their preference or geared to who they are. So reaching out to people consistently, and sending the right message to the right audience are all ways that which we know we can continue to help with our open rates. Right? So that was a big question we got.

So what is the average email open rate in our industry? And it’s 20 to 24% is what we see, and then like worldwide, industry wide, it’s 14%. So financial professionals have a higher open rate than other industries, which makes sense, right? You are the person they turn to, they trust you, you’re the one that deals with all their finances, they should be opening up your emails.

And so how do we continue to improve our emails? Again, said this but the right message to the right audience. We want to make sure that what we’re sharing is valuable. It is written for our target audience, and it is timely, and it is pertinent.

So that is really one. Oh, yay, okay, that was going to be one of my questions was, what is your current open rate? So if you guys want to go into your sentence schedules and share that, we want to see what everyone’s open rates are. And a really great way to increase open rates from the get go is when you are doing your client onboarding process.

Ask your clients to add your email to their address book. That is one of the best ways you can ensure that your emails are being delivered. We also want to make sure that your emails are authenticated through the FMG platform. So making sure they’re authenticated is another great way.

But again, letting clients know in your meetings or your personal touch points, hey, I’m going be sharing a monthly market newsletter, keep your eyes out, right? Or hey, so the more we’re sending valuable content, the better our open rates are going to be. And I want to celebrate with you all. This is so exciting.

You all have amazing open rates, yay. And if you’re looking to increase them, this is what we can continue to do, right? So we want to review our sent emails, we want to look at our open rates, our deliverability, we want to look at our click through rates. And I’m checking at my bounce rates too.

Do I have any emails that are bouncing? That is a great reason to reach out to your clients and say, Hey, hey, Karen, I saw your email came through or didn’t go through. Did you get a new job? Did did something happen?

Right? Great place to then use that list of your bounce rates and your unsubscribes to reach back out for that personal touch point, right? Maybe that’s a good check-in. And if I’ve sent an email that has an unsubscribe rates, maybe I want to think about that email that I sent, and maybe it was, you know, not quite the message that needed to be received, right?

Maybe it was something that wasn’t very valuable. So if you are looking at bounce rates, we want to open up that list and we want to be able to go in and look at that, see who they are, and maybe that’s the perfect time to pick up the phone, call them, and say, hey, how’s it going? What’s going on?

So what’s the difference between an open rate and a click rate? An open rate means someone opened that email. Click through is someone actually went in and clicked in that whether you had an article for them to click through and a button to schedule a meeting, but they clicked somewhere in that email. So that’s the difference between an open rate and a click through rate. And so we see those that have a consistent email strategy, they have higher engagement rates than those that do not. So great place to come in.

And and the industry open rate is based on emails that are sent overall, so that could be overall. So clients and prospects and COIs that live in your, in your contact list.

Okay, that was exciting. I always think that I’m an old washed abathlete, you guys. I love looking at the numbers. Winners keep scores. So that that makes me excited to hear that you have really great engagement rates.

And if you have good emails that are bouncing, again, it could be that the contact information isn’t correct, or it could be for a number of different reasons. Okay, so we looked at what can we do today? What can we do on a monthly basis? Now what can we can how can we continue to build loyalty and retention quarterly and semi annually? So quarterly, again, that quarterly check-in, add a white paper. This is a great way or a webinar.

Events and experiences, like I mentioned, people are craving that relationship, that personalization. So creating that event, that dinner, that workshop, that breakfast that was mentioned in the chat, great way to to expand on that. And again, whether you’re doing your list, I’m going say this a million times because a happy contact list or an organized contact list is a happy contact list. And so making sure we are consistently reviewing our list management and our CRMs. So however you have those organized, that is a really great place to start and making sure that we have a process in place to make sure it’s organized.

And feedback and growth. This is a topic that is becoming very important as of recently, especially as rules are changing.

But what do you use for feedback? Do you guys currently and please put this in the chat. Are you how are you guys checking in with your clients and asking how you’re doing? Do you have a survey? Do you have a form? Do you have?

Are you utilizing something like FMG testimonials? How are you guys conducting these surveys? Because I think we can continue to build on a curated communication strategy when we simply, one, ask in the beginning of our process, hey, how often do you want to hear from me? And then also asking at the tail end, hey, how are we doing? Right? And so if this is something that you’re looking to implement, there’s a couple different ways. Some people use surveys, some people use forms, some people just simply ask in their client meetings.

But also thinking about implementing something like FMG testimonials, as long as it’s approved, which we’ll touch on in a second. So that’s quarterly and then semi annually, right? We want to continue, so making sure something as simple as that handwritten note, we want to make sure that everything’s communicated on a regular basis. So how often are you checking in with your clients?

So start thinking about that, say, man, because we all have those clients, it’s like, I haven’t talked to them in a long time. How are they? Right? We have those clients as well.

And so maybe it’s time to just I’m sure a couple names are popping into your mind as we go through these these exercises. So maybe this is a good nudge just to check-in, check-in with them.

And so as we’re I’ve talked a lot about clients and prospects, but also don’t forget about reaching out and creating that loyal relationship with those centers of influence. So 67 of new clients and assets come from referrals, clients, and COIs. So again, don’t forget to send messages to your COIs. Our do it for me program, if you’re in that or maybe if you’ve considered it, we actually have content written specifically for COIs because we know this is such an important target audience for you and for your relationships.

So making sure that you’re like, okay, who are you know my top five ten COIs? When was the last time I checked in with them? When have I referred any business to them? Is there anyone that I could refer business to them to making sure that this is continuously a plus plus relationship?

Invite them to your client events, right? Making sure that we’re keeping in touch with them at least once a quarter is a great way to do that. And again, if you have to just turn on an automation for them to at least stay top of mind, but then you can continue to curate your your communications with them. So in the chat, who are some of your top COIs that you use? Or who have been some of your most influential as far as referrals go?

And annually.

So we talked about what can we do? What do we need to do annually? You know, it’s sending that client appreciation gift or a simple Starbucks gift card to say, hey, thanks, coffee’s on me today.

Sometimes it’s as simple as an email saying hey, I got to the office this morning and I was thinking about you, hope all is well.

Using tools, you know, you don’t have to do an event quarterly, you can do it annually. Hey, we’re meeting at the park for, you know, a barbecue. Come on over.

Something like sending a client anniversary message. This can be done via physical greeting card. This can be done via email, be done sending flowers.

Just something as a token of your appreciation.

And promote annual review meetings. In your client onboarding process, make sure that you clearly communicate, hey, you’re gonna expect to hear from me at least once a year. I’m not going anywhere. And if you want to meet more often, we can do that.

And of course, those non financial touch points, whether these are on social, like, hey, it’s National Coffee Day, National Sibling Day is coming up, whatever it might be, a free voucher, invite them to a nonprofit event you’re helping host.

Also thinking about those non financial touch points. And again, these don’t have to be all the time. But thinking about sending, you know, a coffee voucher on National Coffee Day is a great way to do that. And again, thinking about feedback and growth, we are only as good as what we know. And our clients will be the first to tell us what we’re doing great and how we can improve. So requesting reviews or testimonials is a great way to do that.

And so if you haven’t seen this yet, FMG has acquired a company called Testimonial IQ, which is now FMG Testimonials, and this caveat, always check with your compliance if it is not approved yet.

We are working with a lot of compliance people, so it could be in the works. And if you’re registered with the state, be sure to check with your regulators. I have to say this, compliance, compliance, compliance first. But if you’re not utilizing a systematic process for testimonials, for surveys, for client insights, this is a really great tool.

And so you can utilize this. And I do not have specifics right off the bat as far as who has approved it and who has not. So please let us know if there is anyone that you would like us to talk to, but of course we are working on this and I’m working with compliances to get this approved, but if this is something you’re interested in and you are self managed, this is something you can use off the bat, otherwise please check with your compliance, but this is just a really great way to get reviews, testimonials, Google, as long as it’s approved of course.

And so, also we’ve talked about reviews, we’ve talked about how often we should be communicating, what we can do on a weekly, monthly, annual basis. Also, there’s things like crisis management, office communications, that are important times to communicate with your clients and prospects and COIs.

And so something like crisis management, what is going on in the world right now, there is a lot going on and this is a great time to check-in. So at the first sign of a market dip, deploy a quick video that says, hey, this is what’s going on, you can use a script from the FMG content library, and you can share that. It’s a quick check-in call, right? This is the best time.

Most people don’t want to talk about crisis communication, their market volatility or the war that’s going on or anything else that but that is the best time for you to step in and to be that person that walks alongside them. And then something as simple as our office communications, right, practice management, we can also use these tools to confirm our appointments, to nudge paperwork and e signatures, to resend review dates and reminders. We see that if someone uses a compliant text message like my rep chat to confirm appointments that your success of having them show up for meetings, goes up significantly.

And we also see that paperwork gets turned around that much quicker as well. So thinking about practice management as well, this topic is really touching on all facets of our business. So I apologize, guys, this is a lot today.

But also how can we work and create, make things simple for you? So if you’re utilizing FMG templates for your consistent emails that you send on a regular basis, hey, just want to confirm your appointment, looking forward, make sure to bring those documents. Right? That can be an email template that you send. We also, you know, CRM best practices. I think I’ve put that on like almost every slide, but again, just making sure it’s organized so that you’re utilizing your contact data to make informed decisions.

What should I be sending them? How often? When is their birthday? When are their client anniversaries? We can use this information to be able to share timely and relevant information. So how can we strengthen trusts during market ups and downs? And three and five clients say more frequent personalized contact would give them more confidence in their financial plan.

So sending that timely market email when things happen, we have a whole collection in the FMG dashboard on timely events.

If you’re part of the Do It For Me program, we are consistently writing content for timely, timely topics.

A great thing to do is sending a quick text- compliant text message. And I think we forget this, is the follow-up after the storm as well. So once everything settles, or at least that world event settles, send that recovery summary, send them a text message saying, Hey, everything’s good.

Plans are built for this. We are good. Right? Allow for them to calm down, send that and again, like I mentioned, come alongside them.

And this is where that trust is cemented.

So like I mentioned today, we went over a lot. We are sending you all these, the client loyalty blueprint and ideas to surprise and delight your clients as well. So these will all be sent afterwards.

And I want to go through just a quick demo today to show you where those email sequences are, and to go over our email sentence scheduled section. So alright. You can still see my screen, you can see the the the content library looks good. So email sequences, so if you’re looking for some of those email sequences, you can come over here.

One of the easiest ways is to come to emails, and come to your email section, and give it a second to think, and of course, you can always come over here to category, and you can filter by email sequences. So we recently updated our filtration system in the content library. If you haven’t noticed that, makes it really easy. So you can come in here, and then you can find our email sequences.

So here you can see, you know, a plan for all seasons, that’s one of the ones that I just went over. Let’s take a look at that.

So again, this is one January through December, it’s a 12 email sequence.

And you can come in, and again, you can use these as is, or you can come in and make them your own, and you can also change the amount of days in between each one.

So that, is a great one to do. And, so come in here, there’s there’s a sequence asking for referrals.

There is, you know, celebrating Women’s History Month. The other one that I mentioned in our slide deck was client relationship nurturing email. So this is a four email series, and it just comes in and just says you’re on a path to live your best life where your money is concerned, preparing to meet your financial goals, blah, blah, blah. Again, use this as is or send, but this sends four emails. So this could be your quarterly touchpoint.

And but come in here and check, there’s, you know, estate planning awareness month, there is life insurance awareness month, there’s a mid year check-in series that you could turn on mid year.

New client welcome sequence. So we also have a did you know on client onboarding, which we’ll share that here.

But our client we had a whole one of these did you knows on client onboarding. So creating a email sequence like the new client welcome sequence is a great place to welcome new clients to build upon your client loyalty blueprint.

So those are those email sequences. And we also I mentioned that we’re gonna go over our sent and scheduled. So come over here. So we’re gonna toggle over to our our marketing tools on the left hand side.

We’re gonna come down to our email section. And then the third one down is sent and scheduled. Here gives me those analytics. So you guys are probably gonna have a lot more data in here than I do because this is just a demo account, but you can see what you have scheduled.

So you can look at, okay, how often have I I reaching out to my clients? So if scheduled is zero, come in here right now and schedule something.

And so then we can also see how many emails have we’ve sent in the past, and here’s that open rate. So this is gonna be your average open rate. So the 20 to 25% average open rate is what we’re looking for. But we know that if you talk consistently to your clients and prospects, you’re going to have a much higher open rate.

And also it depends on how warm your contact list is. So FMG is really meant to be a warm contact communications tool. So if you’re uploading cold lists, that is not used for that, it is not meant for that. So that’s where you’re gonna see a dip in those numbers.

And then your click through rate, your unsubscriber rate, and your bounce rates, Those are important. So if I want to come in here and actually look at my emails, so maybe I want to see how my monthly market insights did. I’m going to come in here and I can click on this exact email, and I can see the list of everyone that opened it, who clicked on it, who unsubscribed, and who bounced. So again, this is what I’m gonna then use as my shortlist for maybe my callouts for the day. Or I’m going to use my bounce list as a reason to reach out to some of my clients that I might not have heard from in a while and maybe it’s because I don’t have a good email address.

So utilizing these and you can download this as a CSV, you can view it as a PDF.

And you can also come in, and if I wanna see everything that this person has seen and received, I can come in here to their name and hit view history, and I can see every single email that they have either opened or clicked through. And so again, this is just giving me good information. I would use this before I meet with a client to come in and see, okay, what emails has this client opened? This is going to tell me what emails they’re probably interested in. This is going to give me topics to talk about my next client meeting. So ways in which we can use this information just a little more in-depth than just, hey, how are my emails performing? But we can go a little bit further in here.

And I also mentioned email templates. So email templates, come in here, you can come in and create email templates for your meeting process, create a template for your first meeting, your second meeting, your third meeting, create an email template to confirm an appointment, create an email template to for a newsletter. So in the chat, please share what are some of the email templates that you’ve created, or the templates that you use most often? I’d be curious to see how you guys are utilizing templates because I think templates are underutilized and a great place to help add more time to your day.

Okay, so going back to our presentation, that was just a quick demo of some of the fun features like email sequences and how we can continue to look at our email information.

And let’s turn this bad boy back into a slideshow. And of course, if you are looking to elevate your marketing, you might have heard about our do it for me program. If you would like FMG to reach out to you about our do it for me program, maybe you already have it, maybe now is not the right time, but if you’re looking for someone to help execute your marketing on your behalf, we would be happy to. And as a value add, everyone on this call today, whether you’re part of them, you already get this content. If you’re part of do it for me, d I f m, diff them. But if you’re not, we have added a special collection, which you will see when you log into your content library as a teaser, but more importantly as a teaser, value add content. We added our tax season essentials, so precision crafted guide to help navigate in deadlines and all the tax things that you need to know and share with your clients and prospects.

And we are also adding our, I call it bombshell, our awesome content that we’ve created for financial literacy month. And so this is content designed to naturally bridge that gap for education and our premium services offering, of course. So you guys will all receive that. So go in and check-in your content library, you will see a new collection and a little teaser of some of the great content that’s available in our Do It For Me program.

And if you have to jump, I get it, we’ve gone over a lot, so feel free to jump off, but we’re gonna go over our content, some product updates, and our next Do It Did You Know date. And in the month of April, and we will be sharing our ten minute marketing calendar. And as you all know, for coming to our Did You Know, one of the value adds you get is receiving our ten minute calendar first. So you’re going to see this here in the chat pop up, we will also share it in our replay, but we will share the April ten minute marketing calendar with you.

And so just some things for you to start thinking about as you’re planning, as you’re scheduling out your emails for client loyalty for that retention. So we have Easter, we have Earth Day coming up, tax day, Passover, so some great content in the content library that’s ready to go, you can go in, use this time now to schedule those out.

And as we’re thinking about themes also, for the month coming up, we also have National Financial Literacy Month, we have National Volunteer Month, and National Social Security Month. So there’s a lot of different topics. So depending on who your target audience is, you can either pick one or all of them, or you can say, you know what, I want to do National Financial Literacy Month for my new families, my millennials, I want to do National Social Security Month and I want to target that content for my retirees. So not everyone has to get everything, we can start to target our communications.

And of course, updates.

So this is a fun one. We have a lot of product updates scheduled for this upcoming year, which is really exciting. You know, as you guys have seen, we have added we’ve rolled out our AI, which is a premium feature, we have rolled out increased analytics with our eSentence Schedules, we’re consistently adding and so one of the ones that we’re excited about, it’s small, but mighty. There’s a social media integration notification. So you guys have all gotten to share something recently. And maybe it says, Oh, no, your social media, your LinkedIn or your Facebook is no longer connected, you will now receive an email just saying, hey, you have it’s time to reconnect your social. So small but mighty, to make sure that you’re staying connected with all of your social features.

And if you haven’t already, save the date for our next, did you know it will be April 22? And if there are any topics you all want to share, please, please put that in the chat or share that with us in the survey.

And as always, everyone, I’ll stay on for a couple more minutes to see if there are any any questions or anything you want me to demo again in the dashboard. But most importantly, thank you. I see consistent names on here, which makes me so happy that some of you are coming month in and month out. And as always, I can’t wait to see all the great marketing you do.

Come join us next month for our next Did You Know? And we look forward to everything you’re doing. So happy marketing everyone. We will see you and we look forward to having all of your email open rates increase, that you turn all of your clients into just raving fans and all of that good stuff.

So thank you so much. We appreciate everyone. We’ll see you soon.

GOT QUESTIONS?

Questions and Answers from Workshop

Who is your target audience? +
Most advisors focus on pre-retirees and retirees (43%) or high-net-worth individuals (18%). Others specialize in small-business owners, young professionals, women in transition, 401(k) plan sponsors, corporate executives, medical professionals, or military families.
What high-impact client touchpoints—beyond email—have worked best for you? +
Advisors achieve strong engagement by celebrating milestone moments through birthday calls, personal gifts, or holiday gestures. For personal outreach, quick check-in calls and casual coffee meetups build high trust. Scalable touchpoints like automated birthday emails and monthly market check-ins maintain steady contact without adding heavy manual work. Hosting client appreciation events or sending unexpected "surprise and delight" gifts also creates strong emotional connections.
Who are your top referral sources? +
Existing clients remain the primary referral source, closely followed by centers of influence like CPAs, estate attorneys, and mortgage brokers. Industry data shows that 67 percent of new clients come directly from client and COI referrals.
How do you solicit client feedback? +
Advisors gather input using annual surveys, post-meeting check-ins, or tools like Microsoft Forms, SurveyMonkey, and FMG Testimonials.
How do you segment your contacts? +
Firms organize contacts by relationship type (clients, prospects, COIs), client tiers (A, B, or C), demographics, life stages, or financial milestones like retirement timelines and business sales.
How many good clients can one advisor manage, given this high level of contact and service? +
The goal is to standardize communication, not increase manual work. This depends on how you systematize your process, leverage marketing automation, and potentially even outsource some of your marketing (for example, Do It For Me). Advisors using automations and segmentation can scale significantly more efficiently.
What’s the difference between open and click rate? +
  • Open rate: % of recipients who open your email
  • Click rate: % who click within the email

  • Open = subject line + timing
  • Click = content relevance
How can I improve my open rates? +
  • Personalize your communications and adjust message relevance to your audience
  • Clean up bounced or outdated emails
  • Improve segmentation (send more relevant content)
  • Test subject lines and send timing
  • Stay consistent
  • Ask clients to add your email to their email address book

Benchmark:

  • ~20–24% average open rate for advisors
  • Many attendees reported 50–80%+ with consistent communication (especially those using FMG’s Do It For Me program)
How do we turn on marketing automations? +
You can activate automations within your FMG dashboard under Marketing Automations. More information.
Which subscriptions include automation? +
Automations are generally included in Premium-level packages, but may be available as an add-on depending on your package. Please contact FMG at 858-251-2400 to learn more about your upgrade options, if this is of interest to you.
