It’s time for our first “Meet the Team” blog of 2023! We caught up with Web Designer, Marissa Adé. When she isn’t helping advisors create amazing websites, she loves being outside, hanging out with friends, playing video games and more. To learn more about Marissa, be sure to check out our latest blog.
With our team working remotely, it’s fun to see where everyone is located! Where are you from, and where do you live now?
I grew up on the East Coast. I spent the early part of my childhood outside Burlington, Vermont and the rest in upstate New York. After graduating college, I moved to San Diego without much of a plan in 2013 and I loved it so much that I’ve been here ever since.
You have created some really amazing websites, and we always love to see the finished products from our design team! How did you get into web design?
I was really into editing my MySpace profile back in the day… LOL. I think that basic introduction sparked it for me. I’ve always been into media/tech, and my education and career path have led me toward Web Design. I have a Communications Degree, was a video production assistant, a graphic designer, a technician at an Apple repair shop, and a UX/UI freelancer. I had always been interested in Web Design for fun. While I was a technician, I decided to return to school and get a more specific degree that could turn into a career.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love being outside, spending time with friends, playing video games, skating, climbing, eating good food, and drinking good beer.
How do you stay motivated throughout the workday? We love how our team has the flexibility to work from home, so what type of routine do you have to stay productive?
I like to go outside on my lunch break. Having that time away from my desk in the middle of the day helps me focus when I’m back. Other than that, just break up to-do items and remember to get up and stretch when I need to. I’m a big fan of Pomodoro as well!
What has been one of your favorite projects, and why did you enjoy working on it?
There’s been quite a few! I love working on any of our website themes where I have the opportunity to design and code. It’s neat taking an idea and seeing it develop through the entire process.
I’ve also loved being a part of the DEI council. It’s been really fulfilling to see our little council grow and the impact we’ve already made. I’m excited to see what’s in store for the future!
Do you have any pets? We love our furry (and not-so-furry) friends at FMG! If so, what kind of animal do you have?
I have a cat named Pancakes! If we’ve worked together at all, you’ve probably heard some meowing in the background or seen her on my lap in meetings.
If you had to teach a class on one thing…what class would you teach?
That’s tough… there are a few useless things I know a lot about, but I’d have to go with The Sims. It might not seem like a game you need to know how to play, but I promise it can be much easier with some tips and tricks lol.
What are three things you could absolutely not live without?
My girlfriend, my cat and burritos.
It’s hard to believe that we’re almost a month into 2023! Do you have any exciting plans for the coming year?
My sister is getting married this year! I’ll be taking a trip to Vermont in June for the wedding. I’m also hoping to squeeze a couple of music festivals in too. We’ll see how the year plays out. Fingers crossed!
What is some of the best advice you have ever received? It can be work-related or just great life advice, your choice!
It’s simple advice from my dad; pick your battles. Some things are truly not worthy of our energy!
